DESCRIPTION:

A charming early nineteenth-century collection of poetic idylls devoted to flowers, followed by other poems, by E.-Constant Dubos, professor of rhetoric at the Collège Royal de Louis-le-Grand in Paris.

The volume is illustrated with nine engraved plates hors texte depicting arrangements of flowers, enhanced by hand colouring and protected by tissue guards.

Small 12mo (described as petit in-12); XXI, 243 pp., [1] page of errata; with half-title and nine hand-coloured engraved plates hors texte, each with tissue guard. Contemporary gold-coloured cartonnage with garland decoration along the spine and framing the boards; gilt edges and original lemon-yellow endpapers; housed in a matching slipcase.

First published in Paris by Léopold Collin in 1808, the work was reissued by P.-E. Janet in this smaller, illustrated second edition of 1817.

CONDITION: Good to very good condition. Foxing and some staining throughout. The leaf comprising pages 19–20 is loose but remains attached. The rear joint is split from the tail to approximately halfway up the spine, though the board remains securely attached. Small loss and wear at the head of the spine, with additional general wear to the binding. Housed in the matching slipcase.
